Baraha Chhetra Temple complex ( वराहक्षेत्र)

Image
Baraha Chhetra Temple complex ( वराहक्षेत्र) Between the Koka and Koshi rivers' confluence in Barahakshetra, Sunsari is a Hindu and Kirat pilgrim site. One of the earliest temples in Nepal, it is mentioned in the Puranas, including the Skanda Purana, the Varaha Purana, and the Brahma Purana. It is also acknowledged and exalted in the Mahabharata epic. With the help of his long tusk, Lord Vishnu prevented the earth from sinking into Patala (the underworld) by taking the form of Baraha. The Lord then sat alongside his wife Laxmi on the banks of the Koshi River, surrounded by the Himalayas and hills. After that incident, the location acquired its name. The Baraha incarnation of Lord Vishnu is depicted in a large and stunning image inside the temple. But Mughal and classical architecture have had some influence on the design and material of the temple complex. #Nepali   #nepaliarchitecture   #Nepalitecture
